Is El Salvador the Safest Country in Latin America?
- coldtea 3y ago>If we double 74 and then divide by 6.3 million, we get a predicted rate for the whole year of 2.3 per 100,000. This is noticeably lower than the 2021/2022 figure for every other country in Latin America. To contrast, the US has an average of around 7 per 100,000 population. And you don't want to know the stats for specific cities like New Orleans, Detroit, St Louis, and Rochester which can go to 10x that. So, far higher than El Salvador. And compared to Chile, Venezuela, Argentina, and Brazil? Argentina is at 4.6, so 40% safer than the US average. Chile is at 5. So both lower than the US average homicide rate. Brazil is 22.3 (so 3x worse than US average, or 3 times less than St. Lous, MI). Columbia is at 26. And Venezuela is at 40. Around the same as Rochester, NY, but theirs is a country-wide average.
