That's a huge bummer to me. I would love to see the sample return mission happen. We have samples from Mars today by way of meteorites but a true unvaporized sample from the surface would be immensely helpful for science. Does anyone know why this is so contentious? Does NASA not know what hardware and workforce will be required for the mission? My understanding is this has been in the works for many years, and the current rover (Percy) is already designed to support this mission.
