A flat Earth would be the "Minecraft way" of doing it. One could imagine building an actual 3D Earth, but it wouldn't be very large as the game probably isn't supposed to go NxNxN instead of NxNx512 or whatever the limit is.
Doing it flat, the only limit is the hardware.
- gregjw 3y agoIIRC they split it across numerous maps and the parent server they build on swaps between servers based on the region you're visiting or working on. It's not just one big Minecraft map, but several stitched together.
