Twitter admits to having a Verified spammer problem
- 3cats-in-a-coat 3y agoIt's a problem they don't mind having. And likely won't try too hard to solve. If at all.
- tornato7 3y agoNobody could have seen this coming!
- warning26 3y agoWho could have guessed that making "verification" trivially easy would have downsides???
- ZeroGravitas 3y agoI believe this was one of the emergent features of Twitter. By verifying a range of "important" people and giving them priority access to inboxes, it made it easier for verified twitter users to connect with each other.
- Pxtl 3y agoIt's about to get much worse. Today they announced reply-revenue-sharing for bluecheck users. People who post big viral threads where people spend a lot of time in their replies will now get revenue sharing. For example, identity-politics conservative streamer Tim Pool just announced he got tipped out about $5k through the system. This creates a huge incentive for the worst kind of trolling and attempting to go viral. "Feeding the trolls" now funds them.
- 3cats-in-a-coat 3y agoCool, everyone gets what they want. People are already leaving.
