Why Prometheus exporters need fixed TCP ports
- cratermoon 3y agoWhat? They need the port number as part of the instance key? Why not just have the exporter advertise a pseudo-port in its metrics and use that? Existing instances can keep using their "real" port number, and new instances can use whatever. The scraper can read the pseudo-port from the metrics in place of the real port.
- valyala 3y agoPrometheus text exposition format [1], which is used by exporters for metrics' export at `/metrics` page, doesn't provide the ability to advertise pseudo-port or exporter name / type, which could be used as a part of `instance` label for the scarped metrics at Prometheus side.
