I can't read the article because it's behind a paywall but I've often wondered if it's viable\pointful to just paint deserts with something like this. Not to reduce air conditioning costs, but to just straight up send sunlight back into space to cool the planet. I assume it would get covered up with sand or dirt too quickly to matter, and maybe doesn't reflect enough sunlight to help in the first place, but I wonder if there's any use to the idea at all.
