On the original beaglebone and beaglebone black, a nice feature is you can connect it by microusb, and this provides power to the board but also bridges your internet connection. So with one cable you get power, ssh into the device, and an internet connection on the device.
- jauntywundrkind 3y agoI wonder if the amazing software support is still as good. The Beaglebone set th highest imaginable watermark for what an SBC experience was out of the box. You plug it in to a computer, boom, there's a networking port available. Accept & immediately the Beaglebone sends a DNS-SD/ZeroConf discovery message out for it's http server. The http server loads a code editor for the device, with some neat embedded samples. Within 10s of unboxing, you're looking at code & live programming the device. Unparalleled experience, to this day, far as I can tell.
- snvzz 3y agoWith a serial console and knowledge of how u-boot works, VisionFive 2 is about as good.
- jauntywundrkind 3y agoI like both of those options myself, after much time spent learning & gaining confidence in how I could use uboot. Great because it leaves so many options open. I forget but I think Beaglebone might have those as well. It is however way way way lower level than VisionFive 2. Beaglebone was an embedded system you didn't even have to know cli to be able to use. Self hosting a networking gadget + whole web based ide for itself, either back at launch in 2008 or even today, was an amazingly friendly feat.
