I'm a controls/automation engineer, not a SWE, and the first function is infinitely easier to understand for me. It simply says what it's doing, in order of operation, in easy to read code. I don't know, does that mean it's declarative? I don't understand how that's supposed to be more difficult than stepping through loops.
