Can anyone recommend sequencing services available in the USA which have good privacy practices / do not share genomic data with any third parties? (And ideally which delete data fairly quickly)
- chaostheory 3y agoTo help with the process of elimination, avoid 23andme if you care about privacy. They do not delete your genetic data. They claim it is due to current legislation. At best, they only remove personally identifying info.
- SaberTail 3y agoSpecifically 42 CFR 493.1105. Because 23andMe is returning information about genetic diseases, they have to retain records for 10 years. https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-42/chapter-IV/subchapter-G/part-493/subpart-J/section-493.1105 https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-42/chapter-IV/subchapter-...
- nabeards 3y agoGenetic information literally is PII.
- chaostheory 3y agoYou’re right. I meant legal personally identifiable info such as your name and addresses both physical and virtual
- nabeards 3y agoI figured you likely meant the legal definition, but it’s unfortunate how few people realize the logic of this.
