I think some transparency is good. I prefer to know what keeps my manager up at night, ie: what are the big problems they are solving. That way I can help or offer context etc. Likewise, I'll share some of the problems I'm working on with my reports. You don't hand these problems down though, you just talk about it and solicit feedback & ideas.
