Just curious, when people say selfhosted does it imply they control the hardware at their home? Or does buying a VM from an operator count as self hosting?

- niels_bom 3y agoI would call both selfhosting.
- gsich 3y agoIt counts. My discriminator is the self- part. Server location is not relevant.
- anderspitman 3y agoWith the caveat that your VPS provider can access all your data should they choose to.
- yonatan8070 3y agoBoth. Selfhosting is a spectrum between renting a cheap VPS and running a small data center at home (see r/homelab for the latter)
- ktm5j 3y agoI agree, both could be considered 'selfhosting'. But in my case I am running on hardware in my house!
