Ask HN: Do you love file system routing?
- PaulHoule 3y agoLike on a web server?
- revskill 3y agoLike Remix, SvelteKit,... modern FE frameworks routing.
- PaulHoule 3y agoHow is that different from ordinary routing? Do you have a virtual file system on the FE or something?
- solardev 3y agoIt's a return to the old ways, after a period of single page apps that handled routing in Javascript. The new frameworks now do both: files on disk are deep linkable as web pages, but navigating between them after the first load doesn't incur a full HTML load and instead just sends changed content over AJAX. A lot more performant that way, but it's more complex.
- verdverm 3y agoIt basically means that you don't have to wire up the router yourself, the framework is going to infer the routes from the filesystem, details ofc framework dependent. Hugo and NextJS are similar in this regard, as are many more static site generators
