I think the new version is supposed to be about 1 MW.
- clouddrover 3y agoIt's "supposed" to be. Great. What does it do today?
- vardump 3y agoOk, Supercharger v4 specs say 600 kW. A bit confused, perhaps there will be two different versions; 600 kW for Cybertruck and 1 MW for Tesla Semi. Some V4 stalls have been already installed, apparently max. 615 kW unless limited by available power. See: https://www.google.com/search?q=installed+tesla+v4+supercharger https://www.google.com/search?q=installed+tesla+v4+superchar... So it can do up to 615 kW at 1 kV – today.
- clouddrover 3y agoThe very first article in the very first link of your Google search says the Tesla V4 charger is "limited to 250kW at the moment". And that charger uses CCS Type 2 Combo plugs, not Tesla plugs: https://www.theverge.com/2023/4/19/23689247/tesla-v4-supercharger-ev-first-specs-rollout https://www.theverge.com/2023/4/19/23689247/tesla-v4-superch... Can you show me a public Tesla charger delivering 600 kW on the Tesla plug in the field today, or is this more pie in the sky "supposed" to be stuff with no practical basis? For contrast, here's an example of 400 kW CCS chargers deployed in the field today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qR2M5W6saAk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qR2M5W6saAk Here's another 400 kW charger from a different charger manufacturer on another charging network: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4ZWN_-a2j4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4ZWN_-a2j4

In theory there's nothing that stops both CCS2 Type 2 and NACS to deliver up to 1MW, both have the required cable cross section and cooling to allow for it. Everyone that has used both NACS and CCS2 will admit that NACS is superior in handling, something that is important if you suffer from any kind of disability, and point I've also admittedly not fully acknowledged. The NACS as it is today simply wouldn't be a good fit for Europe, it lacks a couple of leads, and CCS Type 2 doens't offer any significant advantage in the NA due to the lack of widespread residential 3-phase power in North America. In a dream scenario we'd have the NACS connector with the capabilities of the CCS Type 2.
