What's cpanel?
- ipaddr 3y agoOne click Admin page for your server. Install a library of programs, setup email accounts, landing pages, 404,etc. stats
- justusthane 3y agoJust to add, it’s included with most shared hosting providers.
- vachina 3y ago> One click Admin page Understatement of the year. cPanel feels janky but it works, and works very well. OP could’ve one clicked a Wordpress installation and hammered away with the default theme (which is quite readable already). My $20 DNS hosting comes with cPanel and I never had to lift a finger on sysadmin.
- gexla 3y agoAnd Wordpress can do automatic updates.
- Jnr 3y agoI have been using Wordpress auto updates for many years now, works great. Once in a while I have to also `docker compose pull` to update the PHP version (~once a year?) Hosting up to date Wordpress instance requires no effort. And Wordpress has a really nice editor.
- gadders 3y agoThey stuck their prices up massively in 2019. Put me off having a fun blog. Still not EUR400/year though.

- oliyoung 3y agodidn't know a hackernews comment could make me feel old with two words
- topato 3y agoWhy? Shared/managed hosting solutions (read: not a VPS) are almost universally running cPanel, Plesk, or Webmin. I guess it was more well known in the days before AWS, when that was how almost all webhosting ran lol
