I see interest link with USSR - Soviets also have heavy troubles in making their own big software systems. With extreme expenses created clones of hardware, but people prefer to use stolen software, because of weakness of own created. I seen Soviet copies of DEC systems, DOS, even office tools, but looks like only free market could make really rich software infrastructure.
