I am not really sure, all I've got is a Baofeng, and a set of FRS radios, the latter of which seems more useful in practice than the former, but I've really been wanting to try Meshtastic.
I think the license free stuff is a lot more interesting than licensed, so Meshtastic has potential. HAM is hard to convince anyone to try, but the T-Echo seems affordable and compact enough people might go for it.
- seamac3 3y agoYes, the reason I'm asking is because I've got a Baofeng too, which is a lot of fun to listen in on, yet there are so many more frequencies out there. I was thinking about a hackrf with a "ham it up". I seems like SDRs are an inexpensive way to hear what is out there. https://greatscottgadgets.com/hackrf/one/ https://greatscottgadgets.com/hackrf/one/ Meshtastic looks interesting. Is this a way to create a sort of private long range communication on unlicensed frequencies?
- eternityforest 3y agoThe HackRF looks really cool, but I'm more excited about the next gen one they are working on. No idea if that will be years from now or what, but full duplex is really cool, maybe we can start doing more with EPC Gen2 tags, assuming they are still relevant for DIYers by then and we don't have battery free Bluetooth instead. I have one of the cheap SDR tv dongles, you can hear a lot of interesting stuff on those.
