Dichotomies like this are becoming trite in my opinion, even more so because this representation of "cool/not cool" doesn't ring true to my experience on either platform. Who/what falls in line with either category is largely subjective to the subcultures on the platform itself, among other things¹.

This is nice.
1. With the exception of Tumblr, in my experience at least, Tumblr seemed (entertainingly) hostile to the kind of people who probably went on to launch glowing Instagram personas.
- TeaDrunk 3y agoTumblr had their own sense of influence and a very different kind of person that would launch careers. IMO Tumblr was way more into thought pieces, deep fandom rants were encouraged, humorous quips that would go viral, and collages of pictures/aesthetics.
