The implication made here is that the interviewee is presumably running an OS such as Gentoo or similar which has the spirit of compiling everything from source. Or this person only compiles their browser from scratch which has some privacy benefits (removing unwanted telemetry, no hidden surprises in the binary, etc.) and can help performance. I have known some people who compiled their own Chromium.
While the person who wrote the article might seem odd and I would not have hired them, your condescending tone while nitpicking a perfectly valid technical statement strikes me as weird.
