It was a pointless endeavor.
The practical outcome of all of this work is that Indiana Jones 5 is a commercial flop. Its production budget was $300 million (some estimates have it at $325 million), they may have spent another $100 million promoting it, and it is not on track to make that money back:

For a movie to be commercially successful it needs to be budgeted responsibly. Wasting money on silly efforts like de-aging does not lead to financial success. You're much better off writing a story that doesn't require de-aging in the first place.
- MR4D 3y agoStrong disagree here. Regardless of whether is does well enough to cover costs, they’ve made a pretty decent breakthrough in de-aging an actor who is very well known both in old age and at his younger age. That will help storytellers present their stories with more options and more engagement in the future. The box office is important commercially, but not for technical aspects.
- clouddrover 3y ago> Regardless of whether is does well enough to cover costs It's the movie business. They're not trying to just cover costs, they're trying to make money. They've failed with this one. They completely misjudged the appetite for this movie.
- carlmr 3y ago>They completely misjudged the appetite for this movie. I used to watch a lot more movies, in recent years I've almost stopped going to the cinema, except for movies that look really good. Because everything seems rehashed. The problem is that a lot of times I don't even hear about a movie anymore until I read an article about how it flopped.
