Pickpockets - This is one of the most common crimes happening in the city. ALWAYS watch your personal belongings and if possible don't carry unneeded cash with you or any important documents such as passports or IDs. Be very wary in the metro especially during rush hour (if possible have your bag in front of you) and Times Square, which is a hotspot for pickpockets. Also, be on the lookout for outright muggings.

- fsckboy 3y agoif you are travelling, getting pickpocketed is a huge hassle, so telling tourists to be careful makes sense (not to mention, tourists bring their wallets out a lot, and stand slackjawed looking at things). But living in NYC, riding the subway, and walking through Times Sq on the regular (NYC's 25 screen multiplex is there, across the street from a 13 screen) I never heard of anybody getting pickpocketed.
- pyrale 3y agoLiving in Paris, no one I know ever got pickpocketed. But tourists get robbed day and night. Maybe there's a pattern there?
