- basch 3y agoThey also exit and roll up by being swallowed by Autodesk, Oracle, Trimble, instead of Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft. Construction is one of those industries that has trouble believing anything not designed for construction will work for them. It’s basically a completely parallel reality to what a lot of people here are familiar with. Procore and Plangrid are the darlings, with Procore being the big independent one left. It’s also important to understand that construction is very much an accounting service. It’s endless bookkeeping, keeping track of material and labor. Nearly every company now is either 1) rooted in an industry specific accounting system 2) tied to estimating, and or models 3) some ultra specific tiny shoehorn to alleviate some specific manual process. There’s also a lot more hardware involved than people might realize like laser scanners for generating point clouds.
- paulddraper 3y agoI think the OP is referring to startups that are construction companies. > although the secondary works related to construction like B2B market place for construction materials or layout designing softwares startups are there but no startup is primary associated with real estate construction And the same answer is like for a lot of industries: "startups" (per Paul Graham) are defined as companies designed for high growth. And certain industries difficult to achieve high growth; by definition you won't see many successful startups in them.
