Salt is a taste enhancer where the underlying food is not up to scratch.
The food quality is getting worse as companies seek margins and throw the salt in to compensate for their business decisions.
- chubot 3y agoExactly, fresh food tastes good with modest and naturally occurring levels of sugar, salt, and fat Like a fig, or real bacon or real ham Processed food is like bacon flavored and has incredible amounts of harmful sugar, salt, and fat variants Governments are starting to notice (a few decades too late) that processed food is decimating the population I’ve seen signs against processed food in NYC for the city, and Brazil and Mexico are waking up to their huge public health problems
- eutectic 3y agoBacon and ham are highly processed and salted foods.

- chubot 3y agoI chose them because they are highly salted, but they can be NOT processed Have you ever had a real ham? I didn’t until I was in my late 30’s It tastes totally different and better than what you get in the supermarket
- olliej 3y agoHam and bacon are _definitionally_ manually salted. If you have pork that is not saturated in salt it is not ham or bacon. The curing process[1] is 1. Get object you wish to cure 2. Add immense amounts of salt They aren't naturally salty, that is purely processing. [1] This does not work for curing illness. I am not a doctor but I believe injecting people with immense amounts of salt is bad for them :D
- jowdones 3y agoWell I dunno. I prepare food myself like soups and stews and all and what I found makes the difference between my wife and kid saying "meh" or "fantastic!" is two hefty spoons of salt.
