Is there actually any substance to the argument? I don't see much difference on twitter. People have been commenting on twitters swift implosion since Musk took over but I haven't actually seen it materialize.
- housemusicfan 3y agoAfter listening to Laurene "we can control that narrative" Powell-Jobs talk about the Atlantic, which she owns, I don't take much from that publication very seriously.
- fullshark 3y agoDoesn't seem to be an argument so much as guffawing over twitter's terrible July 4 weekend.
- GravitasFailure 3y agoMaybe? I don't have or want a Twitter account, but have found a few accounts that are worth checking in on (a lawyer whose firm is working on a few cases I'm interested in, the CEO of a company that has a product I'm waiting for, local police blotter, etc.), but Twitter is useless without being signed in now. If Twitter fails, I would expect to see an event something like what's happening now. edit: It's also worth noting that Twitter closing shop completely and selling off the name to a cuckoo clock manufacturer is incredibly unlikely. What's more likely is that "failure" will be playing a distant second to Threads or Bluesky (or both).
- LexiMax 3y agoI was never terribly invested in the Twitter to begin with, but I have noticed former Twitter addicts slowly accrete away from the platform in the time since Elon took over. It seemed like the site lost its use as a social space pretty quickly simply due to the kinds of people Elon let back on the platform and others who he subsequently censored or outright banned. Then, Tweetdeck going subscriber-only threw a monkey wrench into its use as a promotional tool. Finally, the recent logged-in visibility changes and API limits seem to have totally screwed up its ability to be used as a glorified public RSS feed. If you don't notice a difference, maybe you're just not looking in the right places.
