The airline I flew with just ignored my compensation request. After an initial automatic "Thanks, we're working on it", there was no replies or response.
When I finally took them to the local CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) the responded very quickly. The CAA had already investigated that specific flight due to complaints from other passengers.
