I truly thought that by this point in the conflict, we would be past the stage of drip feeding the Ukrainian's military aid and would be coming up with some sort of large scale plan to resolve this.
But, I'm sure the folks in Washington have a master plan to make this all work out in our favor - just look at their track record...
- LinuxBender 3y agoI don't know the answer but based on all the stories and discussions it sounded like the plan was to initially send them all our old munitions that were scheduled for destruction. So instead of destroying them in the US they are being destroyed in Ukraine. I think one of the exceptions was the missile defense systems we sent that were not scheduled for destruction and another was possibly some older versions of Abrams tanks that had some of the classified systems stripped out of them. All of this could of course be propaganda for all I know.

They’ve gotten some retired equipment, especially ex-Soviet equipment logistically compatible with their own from Eastern European NATO members, but while most stuff from the US has been from existing stocks, it wasn’t scheduled for destruction, its just quicker to use and backfill stockpiles than order and deliver new. > I think one of the exceptions was the missile defense systems we sent that were not scheduled for destruction They are in many cases new-build, and Ukraine is the first user of the GLSDB munition. > possibly some older versions of Abrams tanks that had some of the classified systems stripped out of them The original plan was new build Abrams, they were switched to existing ones to get them faster.
