Ask HN: Are you doing Daily Meetings? Is it helpful or stressful?
It seems to me chatting around that almost everybody is doing a form of a Daily Standup. We call them Dailys, Daily, Daily Meeting, Daily Standup, Daily Catchup ...
Whats your opinion on this? Do you find them useful? Or do you find them stressful?
- warrenm 3y agoWho's in the meeting? What's it purpose? How long is it both scheduled for and actually taking?
- JimtheCoder 3y ago"How long is it both scheduled for and actually taking?" Meetings with pre defined end times that also end early are wonderful...and rare. I cherish them.
- warrenm 3y agoThe only meetings I have that routinely hit this are ones I schedule ...but I also know how to schedule meetings, keep them on-topic, and get people contributing (or tell them all to get back to their regularly scheduled programming)
- gls2ro 3y agoI did not want to be very specific with this because there are many forms of this kind of meeting. But the general idea would be: - A meeting that happens every day (or most days) at the same hour - everybody in the team participate - mostly the discussion is about work that was done or will be done
- warrenm 3y agoI've been on those ... the questions still apply ;)
- sergiotapia 3y agoThe only part of the daily rituals I like are seeing the people I work with face to face (in zoom). It builds good working relationships and trust! I don't like verbalizing the work round-robin style, feels like a bit of a waste of time when we could just Slack it.
- gls2ro 3y ago> seeing the people I work with face to face (in zoom). It builds good working relationships and trust! you summarised so nice probably the only benefit myself think it is for this kind of meeting.
- JimtheCoder 3y agoIt depends on who is in the meeting... Meetings with competent, like minded people are usually useful. The opposite are stressful. Just like every other meeting.
