More precisely, we got who we brought to power in all elections, local up to national elections, in the last 20 years or so. The choices given in the last elections were between mostly shades of authoritarianism, and I don't believe any other major candidate would have behaved any better here, and that's not to defend Macron's recent accelerated downward spiral... and most people were complaining about the available choices in presidential and parliamentary elections (as I did). We got the people we voted for (or refused to vote for, too, see abstention numbers) at all levels. You don't get a national-level movement without feet on the ground and a constant political effort.
