Do you though? Because you immediately contradict that by saying the majority owner should be paying out of pocket for other companies to access twitter's data for free. The company has been toeing the line of bankruptcy since before Elon.
Neither reddit nor twitter owe anyone or any company free access to the data they have been paying to host. HN is the last place I'd expect people to be so naive about bandwidth and storage costs, much less the mandate of a for-profit business.
- Zigurd 3y agoBoth Twitter and Reddit benefit from open access to their content. They are currently discovering what the absence of that benefit feels like. Both platforms failed to confer with partners who mediate those benefits about how to recover costs. That's just dumb.

Spending slightly more than the equivalent of the entire net worth of Nike's founder (the 26th wealthiest person in the world) on a social media platform known to be loosing money is quite possibly one of the dumbest things I've ever seen in my 30+ years on this planet. Twitter grew organically, as did Reddit, by having open access - anyone who wanted to see the content had the ability to do so. If Twitter was locked to non-account-holders from the get-go, they wouldn't have scaled to anywhere close to the level it did to be worth IPO'ing, much less being taken private for the amount it was.

It's because he blew 50 billion on twitter that he can do whatever he wants. >the son of people who made their fortunes exploiting impoverished Africans You have to be a seriously deranged person to hold someone accountable for the sins of their father. Ever heard those stories of North Korea where they punish an entire bloodline for one family members mistake. You're mentally on par with that.
