I never really understood central bank currencies... it always felt like the government jumping on a hype train.
The fact that the primary criticism against central bank currencies comes almost unanimously from people who consider straight up tax evasion a good thing is starting to change my mind.
- carlosjobim 3y agoIf you take away the possibility of tax evasion, what options are then left to protect yourself against an oppressor? For most of people living right now, their government is not much more than that. Taxation is human farming, and it has been going on since the dawn of civilization.
- ke88y 3y agoBrazil is not an authoritarian state.
- carlosjobim 3y agoWho ever claimed that? Look to China instead.
- ke88y 3y agoThe article is about Brazil... what are you talking about? What does China have to do with anything? Evading taxes levied by legitimate and democratically elected governments is unjust.
- carlosjobim 3y agoThere's nothing unjust in evading taxes. It's an individual choice, nobody is born into servitude. The discussion is hypothetical about an all-encompassing CBDC, which could take away the gray market and hinder tax evasion. Brazil is not in that situation, since the CBDC is just another payment method among others, most importantly physical cash. If you want to see an authoritarian society you should rather look to China, where they are developing their social credit system.
