I'm not sure the text you read says what you think it said.
I think it's clear and obvious that "vulnerable community" refers to communities at risk of developing antisocial and outright violent behavior towards society as a whole.
These are communities whose members are so excluded and isolated from everyone around it, and so deprived of basic needs, that they end up being hostile to it.
This does not mean that baseball-wielding mobs are inocent snow flakes.
How many children do you know that turned out wielding baseball bats against passer-bys? Do you think they were born eager to attack everyone around them? Why do you think these kids succumbed to that?
If you saw other kids in similar situations but yet to go down a similar path, would you disagree with the "vulnerable" tag?
- jstarfish 3y agoI know what it means and stand by my point. My sympathies do not lie with street urchins who batter women. We've got an unarmed and defenseless woman pushing a baby across the street. Then we've got a mob of child thugs beating on her with baseball bats, explicitly stealing the very thing she would need to use to call for help and leaving both a woman and baby for dead. This is beyond sadistic. Addressing what drove these children to these ends should not be anybody's primary concern, especially in a press release ahead of doing anything about protecting the (textbook) vulnerable women bleeding out in the streets. Half the country just rescinded their right to abort birthing these goddamn hellspawn. Instead of police and EMTs responding to the situation, we have self-appointed social workers doing more hand-wringing about the welfare of the assailants than the actual victims. > If you saw other kids in similar situations but yet to go down a similar path, would you disagree with the "vulnerable" tag? Yes. I've even known privileged kids who bully, assault and steal shit from others. Money, whether daddy was around, molestation stories, none of this shit seems to actually affect outcomes as much as we try to excuse the behavior. The only thing that scales with wealth is willingness to use manipulation/deception in place of raw violence. Elizabeth Holmes and Suge Knight are equally manipulative, differing only in their methods. An education and privileged background taught Holmes how to use words instead of threats. I don't believe it is (some kids are just wired for APD/ODD), but to the extent that this is a learned behavior, it would behoove us to make an example of violent children with extreme prejudice, not coddle them. Let the rest learn appropriate behavior by proximity. There's a reason every stupid TikTok challenge gets traction-- the audience never sees the consequences.

Oh really, so now poverty doesn't correlate with crime? What statistics are you seeing?

You're standing by an illiterate interpretation that feeds on ignorant beliefs. If you stick to them in spite of the info available to you, it's an entirely different problem. > I've got an unarmed and defenseless woman pushing a baby across the street. It's really not about the attack. You're hung on a symptom of the problem. You don't fix problems by complaining about the symptoms. You fix them however by figuring out the root cause and address it. If you're adamant in not understanding the problem and you show no interest in understanding it, whatever you're claiming really has no connection to a solution, and instead simply perpetuates it.
- LocalH 3y ago> Addressing what drove these children to these ends should not be anybody's primary concern Talk about missing the forest for the trees. Solve that problem, and it would stand to reason that "these ends" would diminish.
