The fundamental component of consciousness might be the ability to tell ourselves a story about what we are thinking and doing. LLMS can easily tell a story. The agency question is trivially answered and the rest is obvious.
I think I have a viable strategy about how to get there. I’m in the middle of the bell curve. If I’m thinking it, there are smarter and better funded people working along the same lines. I’d be surprised if we don’t get to AGI in 9months.
ASI might be a short hop from there.
- HowyHugh 3y agoI am a lurker here, and your comment perfectly captures my own thoughts. I don't like to comment publicly, but looks like hn doesn't allow sending messages. Curious: Given this, how are you preparing for it? Both financially, and in life. As I write that question, it's sad we're still thinking about our carbon bodies in all of this. Much bigger things are coming. I have long pondered about the meaning of life, universe... and to me, it comes down to the rise of an intelligent universe. And, essentially, we are now on cusp of that event.
