To be fair, nobody saw that one coming. Caldera was fine, they had done some fun stuff with the installer (Tetris!) and they had a exotically named CEO (Ransom Love), but they were fine. Their heel turn happened after a management change. The whole debacle was stranger-than-fiction (at least at the time). The whole "we're SCO now, and we're evil" was just bonkers. The lesson that people should've taken from that, though, is that any company is just one management change away from major changes.
