Seconding GnuCash - it ain't pretty but once you figure it out it's a simple and very powerful tool. I often toy with the idea of moving to plain text accounting tools but it would be yet another learning curve to climb for questionable benefit. Unfortunately I've had a couple of segfaults when importing transactions since moving to 5.x. Hopefully those bugs are ironed out by now
