Maybe I'm showing my age here but I really think file managers hit the high water mark back in some midway point between Windows 95 and Windows 2000 in Windows and with Nautilus during the Gnome 2.x days. I used to be a real fan of the elementary-nautilus builds in a ppa for Ubuntu in the 8.04 LTS releases. I don't comment on OSX because I really didn't use it much in those days.
These days most file managers just seem to be an increasingly contrary to the essential use of a file manager: managing files, moving files, inspecting files.
I'm sure these wallpapers built-in are attractive. I'd probably even like it if I used it a bit. But something in me just rejects the idea this could be useful at all. It seems more like something that would be a distraction. When I was looking at the github to see what it looked like I actually scrolled by it because I didn't think it was the file manager at all.
Who likes this kind of thing? Can you really make this useful without getting distracted or being annoyed at the loss of usable space taken up by the wallpaper?
