The FTC wants to make it harder to publish fake product reviews
- cratermoon 3y agoYou want to reduce fake reviews? Eliminate the incentives for sellers to create them. Right now we've got Amazon, AirBnb, Etsy, Google, Yelp, and the like all forcing their customers to game the system just to show up in search results, and sometimes pay for higher rankings. But if you don't like Amazon et al, well, where else will you go? Instead of, as the story says "Businesses also would not be able to offer any incentives for writing positive reviews", how about "Platforms would not be able to take advantage of their customers in a way that incentives fake reviews"?
