I get the spirit, and you can indeed something similar with any hosting provider, but what if Vultur shuts you down (or goes bankrupt)? You can spin up a VM and storage elsewhere, but you have to migrate or rebuild your data.
In other words, beware of state and stateful systems when striving for tech independence. The best thing is to keep state somewhere else and have your virtual machines or containers simply pull and push stuff. That way you can always leave your cloud provider by redeploying what essentially becomes a stateless stack. Leaving your data on a public cloud means potentially having to pay huge exit fees when you want to migrate. Of course, this is really feasible at small-ish scales.
