I created an app that will text you when it's bin day
- matt4321 3y agoThought I'd share a project I've been working on. It's an Azure Function that will text you when it's bin day tomorrow and for which type (Food, General Waste, Recycling). It also has the capability to ingest a text and respond with when the next bin collection is
- sampo 3y agobin day = In the UK, the day when you have to take your garbage dumpster to streetside for the garbage truck to collect it. Nothing to do with binary.
- matt4321 3y agoYou're right - I probably should have been more specific
- NoZebra120vClip 3y agoNow at first I didn't know why this would be an advantage over a simple calendar reminder. But I see that it interfaces with the Council API and queries based on the user's address, so it can ascertain the actual schedule as published by the guys who write it; should be accurate. This is a cool thing, and I wish it could be generalized to a lot of different things. Public services that have a regular schedule, until there is a holiday and then it's offset. Public services that don't have a regular schedule, and you may need to depend on an announcement or watching a web page for the next occurrence. Right now, I just tend to enter such things into my Google Calendar and roughly try to predict the future schedules. For example, my city's recycling center is open for a few morning hours a few days a week. They also have a big "Zero Waste Day" event every quarter. It'd be great to get these schedules from the horse's mouth, and be able to query some web page, "I've got a pile of junk! When will the recycling center be open next?"
