- nikolay 3y agoI subscribed but stop using it when it started waving the gender politics banner. It was kinda bait-and-switch.
- crmrc114 3y agoYep I defederated her instance because it was full blown woke political stuff. Nice thing though with mastodon, we can do that. My instances are apolitical technology groups. Still though- I love mastodon.
- Eldt 3y agoWhat is "woke" political stuff, specifically, vs non-woke?
- crmrc114 3y agoI think you know, but in the civil fashion of this site and assuming positive intent in your question; Shorthand for American obsession with identity politics, pronouns, trigger warnings. Those things are okay, but when it's all you post about and your entire identity is being oppressed and offended- it gets old quick.
- jacooper 3y agoThats the general politics in mastodon and if you don't accept their politics and rules, big servers such mastodon.social and .online will defederate with your instance. Its utter BS.
- bradknowles 3y agoSign up for an account with Hachyderm, and get it permanently taken away the moment you publicly disagree with someone. One complaint, and you're gone. No thanks.
- crmrc114 3y agoI'm not at all affiliated with this instance but I follow many users there and the admin Jerry is a pretty cool dude. Checkout infosec.exchange But yeah I'm amazed that such a glowing article came out about hachyderm. To be fair, they serve their userbase well. And I think that's where the federverse wins. You have instances that exist on the far extremes of both political sides of the spectrum. Then you have instances that are mostly apolitical and focus on technology or photography etc.
- crmrc114 3y agoAlso shout-out to tacobelllabs.net for my favorite domain name.
- bradknowles 3y agoI don't know that I would qualify for an account on infosec.exchange. I'm certainly no security expert. If the hachyderm incident has taught me anything, I refuse to attach myself to any system where I have no method of recourse if someone files a false complaint against me, where I cannot be told anything about the complaint or face my accusers, and where my continued existence is entirely at the whim of the admin. If I ever do anything further with the Fediverse, I think it's going to be exclusively on my own system. That way, if I say or do something to get de-federated, at least I've got some hope of a proper hearing.
- crmrc114 3y agoThat is why I selfhost. Digital ocean has an appliance you can spin up and play with in about 10 minutes.
