I expected that someone would have some use for the results of the scan. I expected someone to look at the scan and be able to form an opinion of some kind and tell me more about what was going on in there. Yes, it was confirmed that my expectations didn't line up to the reality.
The reality was that the MRI was ignored. It was a dead letter. It was a fool's errand. It was a useless waste of money. What the fuck use is a medical test that everyone ignores, I ask you? What expectations should I have about a procedure that costs about $1,000 and produces a slip of paper that told me I moved around too much? Could not the PT doctor sit down in the office with me and say "well you moved around too much, but we can rule out X and Y." It seems like, if patient movement is a common error, that the tech would catch that and redo the scan on site, rather than produce botched data that's unusable and then charge insurance for it? That's what happens with X-rays.
They may as well have gone over my body with a dowsing rod and a Ouija board. All they wanted to do was tick a box that said they are getting something done about it, and have me go waste 3 hours of my time.
My PCP took my X-ray results and from that, we were able to determine that nothing was broken, and she also solemnly announced to me the presence of a congenital defect in the bones of my shoulder (that had nothing to do with the current injury) and she described the precise shape and nature of the defect along with its name, so that was an impressive use of an X-ray film. My dentist also uses X-rays all the time to tell me a lot of stuff about my teeth. So yes, my expectations were unnaturally inflated in terms of what to expect from an MRI, which produces way more data in way more detail about the inner parts of the body. But all that data was essentially shitcanned when nobody bothered to look at it.
