I don’t know why the reporting is so poor on this bill. Everyone is focusing on water breaks but it’s so wide ranging - it preempts any and every ordinance a city could pass that is already covered under state law. This does prevent city water break ordinances, but it also prevents mandatory sick leave ordinances, plastic bag bans, tenant bill of rights that cities pass, homelessness ordinances, nondiscrimination ordinances, noise ordinances, fracking within city limits, the list just goes on and on. It’s being referred to as the “Death Star” bill because it completely destroys the concept of local governance.
