I’m mostly surprised that they stopped the production line without any planned replacement. It sounds like the US still doesn’t have plans to develop a new MANPAD or even a new stinger variant. Was there really a point where the US military thought MADPADs weren’t going to be important in conflict, or was it just so low on the priorities list that it wasn’t taken up?
- CydeWeys 3y agoI mean, yes. They aren't that important to us. We have much better systems, both on land and airborne. The problem is Ukraine hasn't been given most of them (and admittedly our best tools for maintaining air supremacy, the F-22 and F-35, are super expensive and require lots of maintenance). We've also given Ukraine just a tiny fraction of the Patriot and NASAMS systems that we ourselves would use.
