I suspect that kind of thing is more common than we realise, but less tied to statins. People report similar effects with SSRI antidepressants, the contraceptive pill, some antibiotics, some disease modifying drugs, some antiseizure. It's probably just true that some people react to some drugs with behavioural disturbances. For some reason statins is where people talk about it most. Perhaps because statins are very common and people don't expect a behavioural change, compare that to antidepressants where people quickly stop.
