I'm afraid us older guys may not have a good sense of what military life is like today. I knew a lot of military families in the 1990s and they seemed satisfied. That contact ended for me about 20 years ago, so I don't know how things have evolved, but a quick check shows that my old friends' kids didn't join up. By the way, TFA mentioned the Marines as the only branch still meeting quotas, so maybe things are not so bad there.
