I can see how it would be difficult to evaluate empirically well. On the other hand, this describes my experience in one workplace extremely well over a period of extreme change. Even there, it was accompanied by changes in personnel but it described the process very well, and so I'm convinced it happens in certain settings at certain scales of social dynamics. I'm not sure why it was posted on HN but it resonated with me. It seems not uncommon to see posts here pertaining to management and group dynamics people might want to be aware of, for whatever reason.
