Does a corporate conspiracy need to exist to explain a discrepancy in pay between genders?
From article:
> But pay inequality was even visible within the same field of study: Of the majors with the most paid internships — engineering, physical sciences, mathematics, computer science and business — only 73% of women earned pay for their internship, compared with 86% of men.

So yes there has to be some sort of corporate conspiracy to say that the same position for a woman pays less than the same position for a man with the same experience level and the same job output. And I have never encountered any data that shows that it's real. All the data shows is that women make different choices than men because engineering and physical sciences and mathematics are all very broad with a large number of positions that fit in those categories that pay differently. And different positions appeal to different people and different personalities and we know that men and women have different personalities.
- ruffbitties 3y agoWhere are you getting that it must be a corporate conspiracy behind the discrepancy in pay though? People also make decisions based on preferences. Collectively those preferences play out such that we can make generalizations. That collectively people like Taylor Swift can be generalizatized that her music must be popular. That's irrespective of an artists merit for whatever that might mean to an individual.
