The actual story here is a pre-covid example of how anti-vax misinformation kills (tfa was from 2019).
In 2013, 91% of Somoan infants were MMR vaccinated. By 2018, due to misinformation, only 31% were. Of the numbers I could find, from October the December 2019, there were 4217 cases. Of these, 2179 were in under 4s. There were 62 deaths, with 54 in under 4s. The total CFR might have been 1.4, close to covid, as you say. I was more interested in that under 4 CFR of 2.4.
Not sure who "the government" is where you are, but on the island where I live, "the government" shut everything down 100% right away and had very very strong policies about school closures and care home mitigation.

- HarryHirsch 3y agoI'm talking in terms of grief, and sounds like you are talking productive units. I was considering Fermi's words - he said something along the line that he knows he is going to die and all his experiences are going to die with him, and he found that incomprehensible. What I'm saying is that adults have friends and are breadwinners, the impact of an adult dying on the world is so much greater than the loss of a young child. a pre-covid example of how anti-vax misinformation kills The other thing - the Wakefield/MMR story: the self-serving fraud published his fake study in 1998 and it has been debunked ever since. The measles vaccing came to market in 1963, its safety profile is known. Anyone who loses their child over a skipped measles vaccine, that's a case of "fuck around and find out". Also, measles are a contagious disease, anyone nearby who has HIV, an organ transplant, is of advanced age or simple was unlucky enough for their measles vaccine not to take is at risk as well. And there is sequelae, especially sclerotizing panencephalitis, incidence 0.1 % or thereabouts. Skaphismos is too good for Wakefield. Not sure who "the government" is where you are The government of the US has declared the Covid emergency over. No mask mandates, no ventilation standards, no paid sick leave. I'm lucky enough to have a single-occupancy office and work in a well-ventilated environment. Many others are not, and meanwhile you hear news like hospital facilities on Okinawa overflowing because of Covid combined with other respiratory diseases (there's good reason to believe that Covid affects the immune system).
