This has been foreseen. I may be negatively biased, but if what you're saying is generic enough that an AI can write it, is it worth saying? I think this was always a fundamental question, but AI will make it much more explicit. I expect conciseness and originality to become more and more important over time, as simply having content becomes a non-signal.
- 888888889999 3y agoThis philosophy of "if AI wrote it, it's trash" I've seen countless times in HN is getting old. It's text, only the content matters. If I'm reading a novel yeah, but otherwise I don't need much originality. Sometimes, something written by ChatGPT is exactly what I needed, and so what? Disclaimer: I don't have a content farm, I just don't get this meme. Same with hating non obstrusive ads for the sake of "hating ads."
- BarryMilo 3y agoI don't personally equate "generic" with "trash". Many marketing firms produce generic content that's "good enough". But that's rarely seen as a good thing. I'm less interested in content farms and more in the use case described in TFA. Why do we need content? So far it's been seen as a signal of... well, something. Maybe not quality but, success? At least a signal that you can afford competent writers. If that's no longer true, what will the web look like in a few years (outside of social media)? SPAs everywhere? Or bigger sets of pages that don't really say anything?
