I've been developing professionally for companies for over 30 years now, and I've _once_ seen a DB changed (in the context of the above). And it required a lot of ORM re-tooling, so as you say, that promise is based on a false hypothesis, and is false even when the hypothesis holds. n=1 and all that, but yeah, I have felt this deeply.
