Supreme Court Strikes Down Race-Based Admissions at Harvard and UNC
- lockhouse 3y agoGood. Although well intentioned, this is racism and racism has no place in higher education.
- johntiger1 3y agoAgreed. For one thing, "race" buckets are far too broad. "Asian" is a term that represents ~60% of the world population, lumping countries as diverse as Indonesia, North Korea, Bangladesh and Kazahkstan together.
- olliej 3y agoSo you also agree legacy admissions should be banned? that schools should be funded based on number of students not wealth or race of the neighborhood? that college prep programs should be made available to everyone?
- throwawaymobule 3y agoI don't think paying your way into collage has anything to do with being a protected class. Not familiar with the US university system, but aren't these institutions run independent of the government?
- johntiger1 3y agoYep, legacy admissions are not great, but it's an orthogonal issue.
- lockhouse 3y agoI’m ok with literally all of that.
- olliej 3y agoIn the interests of fixing equality I assume this will also result in the banning of legacy admissions, equal funding for public schools regardless of where those schools are, and providing equal access to SAT, GRE, etc training services regardless of location or parent income, right?
- lockhouse 3y ago> equal funding for public schools Most public schools in America are primarily funded by property taxes. This has nothing to do with racism or affirmative action.
- timmytokyo 3y ago>This has nothing to do with racism. Other than the systemic kind.
