I really want to love Elden Ring, as I love pretty much everything else From Software put out. And it looks great, there's a lot of cool mechanics in there and some dungeons that are as well made as a soulsborne area. But I just don't like the open world aspects and all the cookie cutter dungeons. While the world doesn't feel empty per se, it feels like there's a really good Dark Souls game in there, buried in an ocean of mediocre dungeons and overly easy and generic boss fights(frustratingly, many of them would be really tricky if they just had more HP).
I just couldn't get past the second region. Not due to difficulty but boredom. Out of probably tens of bosses I killed before giving up on the game, only two were actually challenging fights where I had to figure put the ins and outs. The rest I could just sort of run and do damage so quickly they'd barely get a few moves in.
In short, I think Elden Ring was a bit of a departure into quantity over quality and I hope they go back to making really tight, stripped down action RPGs again, where every area is more engaging and difficult than the previous.
